KINGSPORT, Tenn. — Eastman Credit Union announced it will pay a $6 million year-end dividend to its members.
The $2.8 billion ECU has now returned more than $61 million to members since 1998. The money will be deposited into eligible members' accounts early next year.
CEO Olan Jones explained the dividend is based on members' relationships.
"The more business a member does with ECU, the higher they can expect their year-end bonus to be. It's not uncommon for a family utilizing ECU as their primary financial institution to receive a few hundred dollars in extraordinary dividends."
Jones added that the year-end bonus is a key feature that separates credit unions from banks. "That's what being a financial cooperative is about."
