CARLSBAD, N.M. – A local man faces multiple forgery charges after allegedly posing as his grandfather and withdrawing more than $13,000 from the elderly man's account at Financial Security CU without permission.
Manuel Sanchez posed as his grandfather, Manuel Fierro, at the credit union and produced a money order, according to police. He allegedly provided employees with the number of an account belonging to Fierro and instructed them to deposit the money order into the account so that it would process and he could take the necessary steps to press charges against the issuer of the money order.
He then proceeded to withdraw more than $2,400 from the account, claiming he had left his identification at home. Sanchez then allegedly proceeded to make three additional withdraws over the next several days for a total of $13,116. Each time he claimed to have left his proper identification at home and each time he signed his grandfather's name to the withdrawal receipt.
Fierro told authorities that Sanchez was not authorized to use the account.
