CHICAGO -- Two robbers made off with more than $140,000 from a 71-year-old retired Chicago Transit Authority worker who was delivering the money to a credit union in a bus garage here this morning.
One of the robbers shot the worker in the leg, and the two fled in a red van, police said. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
Two “persons of interest” were taken into custody soon afterwards and were being questioned, police said.
The worker was walking toward the Chicago Avenue Garage FCU around 8:45 a.m. to deliver the money from a bank when two men confronted him, according to police.
Eventually, police caught up to two suspects and are questioning them, police said.
There was no evidence the money was recovered, police said.
