LANSING, Mich. – Ken Ross, a former executive with the Michigan CU League who has been serving as interim state regulator, on Friday was named permanent commissioner of the state’s Office of Financial and Insurance Services.
The office supervises the state’s 224 state chartered credit unions, as well as banks and insurance companies.
Ross, who was vice president, regulatory affairs for the league through 2003, has been serving as interim OFIS head since October, when then-commissioner Linda Watters resigned to take a job with KPMG LLP.
Ross joined OFIS as Watters’ chief of staff in 2003, then was named deputy commissioner earlier last year. While working for the league, he helped draft the credit union reform bill, then worked to implement the law when he went to work for the state regulator.
