SAN FRANCISCO – A fired employee of Pacific Postal CU was sentenced to almost four years in prison yesterday for robbing her one-time workplace of more than $76,000.
Angelica Sagote, 21, a former clerk at the San Francisco credit union, was sentenced Monday to three years and 10 months in federal prison. Her uncle, Sefo Sagote, 27, was sentenced in June to 11 years and one month, and third defendant, Elisara Taito, 26, was sentenced in June to 6-and-a-half years.
The case began last Aug. 4 when two armed robbers wearing masks entered the credit union and ordered employees to open the bulletproof enclosure that protects the line of tellers. Before tellers did so, the men fled with purses belonging to two members.
While investigating the attempted bank robbery, authorities were told that Angelica Sagote had recently been fired over $572 that was missing from her drawer. One of the would-be robbers resembled a relative of hers. Two days later, the credit union was held up again, this time by two armed men who forced a pair of tellers to open the vault and stole $76,300.
Police acting on a tip raided an apartment where they found $32,000 of the stolen money. Angelica Sagota, her uncle and Taito were arrested.
