NEW YORK -
The breakdown of the Federation’s board (shown at left) is highly diverse. Much like its mainstream counterparts, the Federation also seeks diversity in terms of the asset sizes of the credit unions on the board, as well, but because CDCUs tend to be smaller than many mainstream credit unions, the asset sizes are a little closer together, with eight board members coming from credit unions with less than $10 million in assets, five from CDCUs with assets between $10 million and $50 million and two from assets above the $50-million mark.
The other charts on this page and the opposite page show the various reasons credit unions believe it’s important to reach out and serve the Hispanic population.
But despite the fact that Hispanics are the largest and fastest growing minority group in the U.S. (according to the U.S. Census Bureau), there are still very few Hispanics in the mainstream national credit union leadership.
This is the second installment of Credit Union Journal’s special report exploring diversity – or the lack thereof – in the credit union movement.
