Fake CU Employee Accused Of Cleaning Out Elderly Member’s Account

LAKE MARY, Fla. – A woman with convictions for prostitution, burglary, theft and drug possession allegedly posed as an employee of CFE FCU to trick an 89-year-old member suffering from dementia into giving her his debit card and siphoning all but $3.09 from his account.

The member gave Tonya Tinch his debit card and personal identification number thinking Tinch was an employee at the credit union’s Winter Garden branch, police said.

Between April 26 and 29, $1,271.26 disappeared from his account, leaving $3.09, according to an arrest report.

Tinch, 34, told officers the man gave her permission to use the card, but he denied it, the report states.

Tinch was arrested May 2 on charges of grand theft, fraudulent use of personal identification information, fraudulent use of a credit card and exploitation of the elderly.
