AUSTIN, Texas – After an investigation prompted by local credit unions, two employees at Popeye’s Chicken were arrested Wednesday and charged with stealing customers’ credit and debit card information using a skimming device.
The skimming was discovered after police were contacted by several credit unions in February about fraudulent charges and investigators were able to determine that in past months all had visited the same Popeye’s Chicken. After police installed a hidden camera inside the fast-food restaurant they recorded the two suspects skimming 73 cards in three days.
The cards information was used to make fraudulent purchases, police said.
Alexis Blount, 17, and Pluitt Warren, 32, are facing second-degree felony charges for unlawful use of a criminal instrument, according to court records.
