SYRACUSE, N.Y. – NPG Employees FCU celebrated its Golden Anniversary at its annual meeting and dinner dance Saturday night by recognizing fifty years of membership by its longest-standing member.

James Hewitt joined the credit union soon after it was founded in 1957 by the New Process Gear, auto parts manufacturers, and members of the United Auto Workers Union Local 624.
The credit union’s first office was in the basement of the treasurer’s home. Some members were runners who collected deposits or loan payments from workers on payday. Once a week, the runners met at the treasurer’s house to manually post transactions.
The credit union now has $39 million in assets and serves 7,600 members from NPG and more than three dozen select groups.
