First Citizens FCU Plans Two New Branches

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. – First Citizens’ FCU is expanding into Cape Cod with a new branch in the town of Mattapoisett and another branch is planned at an undetermined location on the Cape.

The $500 million credit union is opening the Mattapoisett branch on Sept. 13.

“Our expansion on the south coast – and Cape for that matter – is really a natural fit for us,” said Peter Muise, president of First Citizens.

“Since we have been neighbors and many of our employees hail from these towns, we are extremely comfortable taking up ‘residence’ in Mattapoisett,” explained Jeffery Riley, chairman of the First Citizens board and Mattapoisett resident.

The credit union had a good year in 2009, with more than $1 million of net income, even after a $3 million charged for the corporate credit union bailout. It reported $1.9 million of net income for the first six months of 2010.
