First CU Shutters Two Branches

CHANDLER, Ariz. – First CU, one of several large Arizona credit unions suffering big losses, this week said it will close two branches, one in Flagstaff, ending a 23-year presence in that city.

The $460 million credit union, which lost $11.7 million in 2008 and $13.3 million in 2009, said it also is closing one of two branches it operates in Tucson.

The closures will help First CU focus on its operations in the Phoenix area, according to a news release.
