First Carolina Corporate Credit Union and VACORP Federal Credit Union co-sponsored the first annual Payment Systems Conference that sought to provide CU industry payment experts with timely updates and new technology.
More than 70 CU officials representing 51 credit unions from North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina attended the first meeting in late October.
"The interest in this first conference reinforces our belief that there is a need among many of our members, particularly payment systems professionals, for valuable news and education regarding ACH operations," according to First Carolina CEO David Brehmer.
Seminars included ACH basics, origination services, exception item processing, ACH policy and procedure for credit unions, audit controls and compliance. VACORP FCU CEO Jim Hansen said the event's meetings were tailored to meet the needs of industry ACH professionals who oversee their CU's daily operations.
National Automated Clearing House Association official Nancy Grant told the audience the future of the industry includes exploring and implementing approaches that enable financial institutions to make the characteristics and value of ACH payments recognizable to their members in a clear, consistent manner.
Lynchburg, Va.-based VACORP FCU is a $1.4-billion financial cooperative serving CUs across the nation for 25 years. First Carolina Corporate serves CUs in four states with $1.9 billion in assets.
