Florida Central CU Promotes From Within To Succeed The Late Ed Gallagly

TAMPA, Fla. – Florida Central CU, which lost its long-time president and CEO Ed Gallagly to liver cancer in March, yesterday named Laida Garcia, its executive vice president the past eight years, to be its new CEO.

Gallagely, who was 72 at the time of his death, built the credit union to $265 million in assets over his 44 years at the helm, while earning a reputation as a fighter for low-income and underserved members and potential members.

Garcia also serves on the CUNA board and is treasurer of the board for the National CU Foundation.

Florida Central serves about 36,000 members and more than 1,000 select employee groups and operates seven branches in the Tampa Bay area.
