AURORA, Ill. The former president of Aurora Firefighters Credit Union, Anne Schaal, has pleaded not guilty to charges she misused and embezzled money from the credit union.
Arrested in September of 2012, Schaal, 66, had been charged with using a credit union corporate credit card for $35,000 in expenses unrelated to credit union business. Schaal was indicted on the charges in April. Earlier reports had alleged that Schaal had a gambling problem and that as part of an earlier divorce settlement she indicated having spent more than $580,000 of marital assets gambling.
In a separate civil suit filed by the credit union, a judge ruled in favor of Aurora Firefighters and ordered Schaal to pay a $23,000 judgment. Portions of that case continue. The criminal case is scheduled for a hearing in June.
