MOLINE, Ill. — DHCU is changing its name to Vibrant CU.
According to the credit union's website, the $487 million CU "wanted a name that reflects our growing community membership" and would "offer a wider welcome and convey some of what makes Vibrant Credit Union unique." The CU was originally chartered by factory workers at the John Deere Harvester Works Plant as Deere Harvester CU, though in 2005 it shortened to DHCU after a request from John Deere to remove the brand affiliation. DHCU was thought to be an acronym without a meaning.
Membership voted to approve the name change at the March 24 meeting, and branding and signage will be swapped out in late April/early May. The CU's website will also switch over on May 4, with DHCU.org redirecting to vibrantcreditunion.org.
"There's a lot we want to share with our members and the community, and the most important thing is that this name change does not mean we're being bought or sold," president and CEO Matt McCombs said in a statement, emphasizing that the CU will continue to provide the same service to members it has for 80 years.
