STOCKTON, Calif. - (06/29/05) Food Processors Credit Unionand El Concilio/Council for the Spanish Speaking have teamed up tocombine the credit unions specialized financial products andservices with El Concilios array of social service programsthat target the low-income and Spanish-speaking communities in theregion. As part of that partnership, FPCU, which is in the processof changing its name to Community Trust CU, has opened a branch atEl Concilios main office, here. This partnership is thefirst of its kind in the San Joaquin Valley and represents asignificant milestone in providing services for traditionallyunderserved, unbanked Latino populations, according to FPCU and ElConcilio. Those in attendance at the ribbon-cutting ceremony forthe new branch included such dignitaries as State Sen. MichaelMachado, U.S. Rep Richard Pombo and Brian Gately of the NationalFederation of Community Development Credit Unions. Thecollaboration between FPCU and El Concilio was funded in part by aCDFI Fund grant.
