Fred Kent, Retired CEO Of Arizona’s First CU, Passes

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Fred Kent, a former NCUA examiner who eventually headed First CU from 1988 to 2009, died Thursday at 67.

Kent spent 37 years in the credit union movement, beginning as an NCUA examiner in 1975, then served as general manager of J.L. Bammerlin Postal FCU, and later as assistant general manager for First FCU after it merged with Bammerlin. He was president and CEO of the $400 million credit union until he retired in 2009 and subsequently served as chairman of its board of directors.

He also served on the board of directors for the Arizona CULeague for 16 years, three of which were as the board's chairman. Kent also served as secretary for Arizona Council of the Blind FCU’s board of directors for 23 years.
