Goodbye Guzzlers?

While indirect lending volume is up, South Carolina FCU's John Bryan said, SUV purchases are not.

"We've noticed a decline in applications for SUVs, but have not seen a corresponding decrease in the volume of loans," he said, adding that large vehicles in general are not as attractive to consumers of urban cities, considering the high cost of gas.

By the same token, he said, more women are making car buying decisions that don't include politically incorrect gas guzzlers. That said, dealers in more urban areas still report that truck traffic continues to lead sales.
