Grant-Writing Firm Helped Win $5 Million In CDFI Awards For CUs

TACOMA, Wash. – CU Strategic Planning, a firm that specializes in credit union grant writing, was front and center in yesterday’s Community Development Financial Institutions awards, helping seven credit union clients win a total of $5.3 million in grants.

Credit unions and credit union organizations won more than $25 million in CDFI funding, the Treasury Department announced yesterday, as part of a total of $142.3 million provided to CDFIs. It was the most ever awarded in any single year by the CDFI fund.

The biggest credit union recipients, all winning $1.5 million were: ASI FCU, Brooklyn Cooperative FCU, First Legacy Community FCU, Fairfax County FCU, Hope FCU, Industrial CU of Whatcom County, Latino Community CU, Lower East Side Peoples FCU, Mendo Lake CU and Self-Help CU. The National Federation of Community Development CUs and the North Carolina Minority Support Center, a group of North Carolina CDCUS, also received $1.5 million.

CU Strategic Planning’s clients include: Industrial CU of Whatcom County in Bellingham, Wash., Hawaii First CU, Holy Rosary CU, Kansas City, Community CU of Southern Humboldt County in Garberville, Calif., Coshocton FCU of Coshocton, Ohio, Pelican State CU in Baton Rouge, La., and Shreveport FCU in Shreveport, La.
