SAGINAW, Mich. – Volunteers from United Financial CU and the community will help tear down the credit union’s branch here this weekend, then truck the reusable materials to other sites for use by Habitat for Humanity.

The process is the reverse of the one credit unions typically undergo when they help build homes for the home-building charity.
In this case, Habitat plans to truck the building tiles from the old branch to its warehouse, where they will be used for additional insulation. Habitat hopes to be able to sell leftover metal for scrap. It hopes to raise as much as $10,000 from the deconstruction.
United Financial CU is building a new branch next to the site.
