KENNEWICK, Wash.-Motorists entering this southeastern Washington city are now being greeted by a giant LED display that wraps around two sides of the iconic "flashcube" building here that was renovated recently by HAPO Community CU to house its headquarters and branch.
Covering more than 900 square feet of the façade, the multi-color display is running a mixture of static and dynamic video messages, such as how to join the $1-billion credit union, as well as ongoing promotions. In addition to being able to display visible content in direct sunlight, the transparent profile enables tenants to see out of their windows with minimal obstruction.
The 52,500-square-foot, four-story landmark building was built in 1980 and got its nickname because it resembles the flashcubes that used to attach to traditional cameras. Credit union officials saw the renovation as a chance to acquire an iconic structure in Kennewick and reinvent the local perception of HAPO Community by making bold and innovative changes, like the colorful wrap-around electronic billboard.
The huge sign was designed by Seattle-based Momentum, with the LED display, called S|ThruMedia, created by SNA LLC, a provider of lighting solutions and digital displays throughout North America. The overall resolution of the display is processed as 888 pixels wide and 379 pixels tall. There are more than 1,000 LED strips located across the face of the HAPO building with over 338,000 LEDs.
"This installation is truly unique in that it is the first S|ThruMedia display that has wrapped around the corner of a building. This design allows HAPO to manage the content in a creative way while having the message truly stand out in a dynamic way," said Jason Helton, director of North American products for SNA LLC.
