Hawaii: Reaching Out Via State-Sponsored Fair

The Hawaii CU League does not have direct programs to assist immigrants, but it works with the state's CUs to provide services to many people, including immigrants.

Guin Okimoto, the league's vice president of member relations, said the league participates in Workforce Hawaii, a job fair sponsored by the state government.

"We talk to people about strategies to get out of unemployment, we give financial counseling, and we talk to them about joining a credit union," she said.

The Hawaii league works with state CUs to teach young people about financial awareness, Okimoto added.
