Heartland Credit Union, Hutchinson, Kan., announced Dan Springer has been selected as its next president and CEO, effective Oct. 10, to succeed Garth Strand who is retiring after a 36-year career with the CU.
As executive vice president/CFO of Heartland CU, Springer led the accounting department, which expanded to include the EFT, sales/marketing and investment/insurance departments.
Majoring in accounting and business administration with an emphasis in finance, Springer obtained his bachelor's degree from Doane College in Crete, Neb. He additionally obtained a master of business administration with a concentration in finance from Wichita State University, and he also holds a Certified Public Accountant Certificate.
"Dan is just the person to lead [Heartland CU] into the future," said Strand. "His experience with strategic planning and commitment to excellent member service makes him a choice every member can be confident in."
Strand started working at Heartland CU in August 1980 as vice president of lending. In May 1989, he was promoted to president. Under his leadership, Heartland CU saw its branch network increase from two to six; assets jump from $23-million to $274-million; and membership climb from 8,500 to more than 22,700.
