TOOELE, Utah – HeritageWest CU announced the departure of its long-time CEO Steve Christensen and the promotion of Bruce Bryan, its chief operating officer, as his successor as president and CEO of the $300 million credit union.

The credit union, formerly known as Tooele FCU, said the 57-year-old Christensen left after 14 years for personal and family reasons.

HeritageWest, like several Utah credit unions, has had difficult financial problems lately, with a $12.4 million loss for 2008 and a $15.3 million loss at mid-year 2009, pushing the credit union’s net worth below 5%.

Bryan, 52, had more than 30 years experience in financial services, including stints at Universal Campus CU in Provo (now Utah Community CU), and at Travis CU in Vacaville, Calif., and has been COO of HeritageWest since 1997.
