Hometown CU Opens Minnesota’s First Student-Run Branch

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Hometown CU opened the state’s first in-school, student-run credit union branch in Owatonna High School.

The credit union has been working with teachers, the school board and school administrators for the past five years on the project. The in-school branch will be operated by students and supervised by a Hometown CU manager.

The student branch will open new credit union accounts, process checking and savings account transactions, and provide account maintenance.

The credit union also plans to teach financial literacy courses at the school.
