TCU Insurance Agency, based in South Bend, Ind., has acquired Winey Insurance Agency of Chesterton, Ind.
TCU Insurance Agency is an independent agency within $3.1 billion Teachers Credit Union, also of South Bend, Ind.
Winey Insurance is an independent insurance agency specializing in personal and commercial insurance. It has been in business since 1980. TCU Insurance said it will retain the Winey Insurance staff and office located at 762 S. Calumet Road in Chesterton. TCU Insurance added the staff will continue to work with Winey Insurance clients that reach throughout Indiana, Illinois and Michigan.
“Winey Insurance clients will have access to more robust options from the more than 200 insurance companies TCU Insurance represents,” TCU Insurance said in a statement.
TCU Insurance lines of coverage include home, auto, business, life and health insurance in communities throughout Indiana and Michigan, in concert with Teachers Credit Union’s 55 branch locations.
The merger went into effect Oct. 1, the two parties announced Monday.

In a letter announcing the merger to clients, senior Winey Insurance staffer Tim Winey wrote, “It has always been our promise to provide you peace of mind. We have strived to deliver personal, professional service and have been honored to serve as your insurance partner. I am excited to share changes that will ensure you continue to receive the best coverage and service.”
