BANGOR, Me. - (02/23/06) -- A former University of Maine studentwas sentenced to more than six years in prison Tuesday for armedrobbery of $2,200 last April 4 from the University CU here. StevenBell, 20, entered the credit union around 9:15 am with a hoodedsweatshirt pulled over his face and handed the teller a note thatsaid he had a gun and demanding money. He was later identified bythe teller who had taken some classes with him at the University ofMaine. Despite the note, police said Bell did not have a gun at thetime of the robbery. Bell was picked up two days after the hold-upat his apartment, where police found practice demand notes, whichmatched the note he handed to the teller during therobbery.
