John Murphy, President/CEO of the Maine Credit Union League and Synergent – the league's service subsidiary, announced he will be retiring effective June 1, 2017.
"It's a true privilege to work both for and with so many great people over the years in an industry that is so important in the lives of consumers," the 24-year league veteran said.
The league said Murphy has contributed significantly to the "development of many products, services and programs for credit unions," noting that the CEO has provided his services at several other organizations throughout his tenure. They include serving as chair of the corporate governance committee on the board of the Credit Union National Association and chair of the political involvement and grassroots committee at the American Association of Credit Union Leagues.
Murphy currently serves as vice chairman of the Hampden, Maine-based CUSO Home Lending and as member of the board of CO-OP Shared Branching and the New Hampshire-based America's Credit Union Museum.
The league said it has retained the services of O'Rourke & Associates to conduct a search for Murphy's successor.
