Justice Served To Ailing Atlanta CU

CHANTILLY, Va. – Justice FCU, the credit union for the U.S. Department of Justice and various law enforcement agencies, on Wednesday said it will expand into Georgia with a deal for the Georgia Department of Public Safety CU.

Georgia Department of Public Safety CU is a troubled, one-time $18-million credit union that serves the Department of Public Safety, the State Patrol, Bureau of Investigation, and Department of Driver Services. Chartered in 1970, Georgia Department of Public Safety CU reported a $730,000 loss for 2010, a $1.4-million loss for 2011, and net worth of just 2% at March 31.

The troubled Atlanta credit union, which also serves a law enforcement training center at Forsyth, Ga., has two branches in the Atlanta area. Justice FCU is planning for a third branch in Georgia.

Justice FCU has assets of $550 million and serves the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security, law enforcement communities, their family members, related associations, and contractors. It has branches in New York, Houston, San Diego, Los Angeles, Quantico, Va., West Virginia and Washington, D.C.
