CHARLOTTE, N.C.-New WAN accelerators allow Charlotte Metro CU here to watch what employees are doing on the network, according to David Cooper, VP-information systems.
"I'm learning that sometimes people get bored and go to YouTube," Cooper said. "I've learned that the accounting department uses very large Excel spreadsheets. I see spikes in network usage, and I see what's causing the spikes."
As a result, the CU has deployed web monitoring tools to prevent employees from visiting certain sites, said Cooper. And IT is working with accounting to modify spreadsheets and make better use of databases and reports.
"The Silver Peak WAN monitoring tool is an unanticipated benefit beyond WAN acceleration," he said.
