LOUISVILLE, Ky. - L&N FCU has notified federal regulators that counterfeit cashier’s checks bearing the credit union’s name are in circulation, associated with a secret shopping scam.
L&N FCU does not issue cashier’s check, though it does issue official checks.
The counterfeit items display the routing number 011007092, which is assigned to Boston Safe Deposit & Trust. The credit union’s official checks are issued by Minneapolis-based Moneygram Payment Systems, Inc., through an account at Boston Safe Deposit. The counterfeit items bear no resemblance to authentic cashier’s checks.
The counterfeit checks have a security feature statement embedded in a darkened top border reading, “For security purposes the face of his document contains a colored background and microprinting in the border.” (c) 2008 The Credit Union Journal and SourceMedia, Inc.
