COLUMBIA, S.C. – The last of four suspects charged in a scheme to plant pipe bombs at a school in order to create a diversion during a credit union robbery has been convicted for his role in the scheme.
According to local news reports, Steven Michael Eddington, 18, was convicted of conspiracy to rob a bank, possession of explosive devices and other charges and faces a minimum of 40 years in prison.
His father, Timothy Wayne Eddington, was convicted last month and still awaits sentencing. William Christopher Puckett, who is the nephew of the elder Eddington, and Edgar Scott Williams IV pleaded guilty last year.
Law enforcement officers said the men planned to rob a Founders Credit Union branch in Charlotte, N.C., and intended to plant pipe bombs at a school in Charlotte and phone in a bomb scare to divert police attention during the robbery.
When the four were arrested in a vacant building back in August, two pipe bombs were seized and disarmed.
