Last week, TV ads began running in the state’s largest markets: Bangor, Portland and Presque Isle. A total of 3,000 more commercials are planned for 2008, compared to the number that ran in 2007. The credit union commercials will run on the broadcast of the state high school basketball championship, one of the most popular local televised events. The average viewer will see the commercials more than 20 times during the tournament.

Also new to this year’s campaign is a message that will scroll across each television advertisement, encouraging consumers to text message “ATM at 22700” to receive tips on saving money through using a Maine Credit Union.

New sponsorships for 2008 will include the Lobster Festival in Rockland and Aroostook County’s Bluegrass Festival, along with continued partnerships with the Seadogs, Pirates, Potato Blossom Festival and Folk Festival.

The Maine CU League, which has organized the effort, has budgeted $800,000 for the two-year campaign.
