Maine CUs Set New Record In Hunger Fight

Maine's credit unions have set another record in raising funds to help end hunger in the state. At a ceremony at the Senator Inn in Augusta and with hundreds of representatives from Maine food and hunger organizations, Maine's CUs announced the 2002 Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger raised a record $193,640, shattering last year's record of $170,356. The ceremony also marked the official recognition that Maine's credit unions have now raised $1.32 million to help end hunger since it began its Campaign in 1990. Sixty-nine Maine CUs (91% of CUs in the state) and all eight chapters participated in this year's campaign. Dexter Regional FCU took top honors in both total funds raised and the highest money per member. The credit union raised $13,500 and $1.09 per member.
