Man Jailed For Looting ElderlyGrandmothers Account

MEDFORD, Ore. - (04/24/06) A 20-year-old man was sentencedto two months in jail Friday for draining $69,000 from his ailing75-year-old grandmothers credit union account. Mathew Watsonpleaded guilty in state court Friday to two counts of theft afterhe convinced his sick grandmother to grant him access to heraccount at Rogue FCU. The elderly Medford woman was not legallycapable of consenting to the agreement, police said. Credit unionofficials noticed the dramatic drop of funds in the account andnotified Senior and Disabled Services, which called police latelast year.
