BURLINGTON, Vt. The manager and sole employee of tiny Border Lodge CU, a $3.4-million credit union at the Canadian border that failed last November, was charged with embezzlement yesterday.
The indictment, brought in U.S. District Court for Vermont, charges Debra Kinney with embezzling funds over a two-year period between 2010 and 2012.
The single-branch credit union, in the tiny town of Derby Line, served 1,097 members from various select groups in Vermont’s Orleans County when it was shuttered by state regulators in November.
Kinney is scheduled to be arraigned in Burlington next week.
