Massachusetts Gets New Regulator Antonakes

Gov. Mitt Romney has named Steven Antonakes, a long-time deputy in the Department of Banking, to succeed Thomas Curry as new banking commissioner overseeing state chartered banks and credit unions in the Bay State.

Antonakes was previously the banking department's deputy commissioner for administration and policy and has been with the department for 14 years.

Curry is leaving to join the board of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., the chief federal banking regulator.
