MasterCard Pilots Controlled-Spending Card

PURCHASE, N.Y. – MasterCard said yesterday it plans to offer Citi cardholders a new card for which users can set spending controls and receive real-time information.

MasterCard's inControl program enables customers to manage spending limits and set up budgets for particular types of spending. The company said it also lets customers manage where, when, how and for what types of purchases their cards may be used. And they can receive real-time spending alerts in text messages or e-mails to prevent overspending.

MasterCard said research shows consumers want this type of budgeting tool and will feel more secure using their cards with the real-time account activity alerts.

The service will be available to cardholders of participating Citi MasterCard credit cards late this year.
