Previously, Mayhew served as vice president and CFO of Rome Memorial Hospital in St. Rome, N.Y. He has been a director on the GPO board for 25 years, including his current role as vice chairman.

"I am looking forward to growing the credit union and continuing to stress the importance of member service... treating our members as we want to be treated ourselves," Mayhew said in a release.

Mayhew replaces John Prumo, who retires as GPO's president and CEO on March 31 after more than 40 years.

Prumo provided "outstanding" leadership to the credit union, said Leo Callari, chairman of GPO's board. Under Prumo's direction, the CU grew to more than $200 million in assets and 25,000 members with six branch locations.
