Member Charged With $28,000 Check Fraud

WORCESTER, Mass. – A member of Shrewsbury FCU was charged with check counterfeiting after an employee realized that about $20,000 worth of checks were altered, forged and stolen.

The member added a “1” before the checks that were issued to him by a company where he worked, adding $1,000 to each of the 20 checks, making the total $20,000.

The investigation allegedly revealed four additional checks stolen and forged totaling $7,732, according to the police report.
