LAKE MARY, Fla. – A young groom and his fiancée were the first of 75 members of CFE FCU who will win a half-carat diamond during the credit union’s diamond anniversary celebration, Dash for Diamonds.
The first event was held March 24 at CFE’s downtown Orlando branch, and the winner was Ryan Furman of Orlando. Furman and his fiancée were among the very first to arrive at the event, waiting almost two hours for their chance to win a diamond.
“We’re getting married this November, and when we heard that CFE was giving away diamonds we began following them on Facebook to find out when and where the next event would be,” said Furman.
CFE, chartered as Central Florida Educators CU, plans to give out 75 diamonds at yet-to-be announced branches through its 75th year. The date, time and location of the giveaways will be announced on the $1.3-billion credit union’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
Participants are able to register on mycfe.com to receive e-mail and text alerts. The events are free and open to the public. The first 75 people to arrive at each event get to select a gemstone from CFE’s treasure chest. Seventy-four of the stones are cubic zirconia, while one is a genuine, half-carat diamond valued at $1,000.
So far, the credit union has more than 250 people registered for e-mail and text alerts.
