SALT LAKE CITY - (02/16/05) The state SenatesTaxation and Revenue Committee easily passed the anti-credit unionresolution Tuesday and passed it on for consideration of the fullSenate. Meantime, public opposition continues to grow to the bid,which would urge Congress to allow states to tax federallychartered credit unions. The Utah League of CUs said it hascollected 65,000 signatures to a petition opposing the anti-creditunion measure, which it plans to send to Congress if thenon-binding measure passes. Even if the state legislature passesthe resolution it is unlikely to be considered by Congress,according to Utah Sen. Robert Bennett, who told The Credit UnionJournal last week there is very little appetite in Congress toweigh in on the credit union-bank wars.
