Mergers Won't Hurt BofA Dominance

RESTON, Va.-The recent mega-mergers in the banking industry will likely fail to knock off Bank of America from the top of the online banking heap, expert analysis concluded.

The banking giant will still have the largest amount online customers according to comScore Inc.

"In terms of existing online customer overlap, the Chase/WaMu and Wells Fargo/Wachovia or Citi/Wachovia mergers have surprisingly little," the information provider said.

Bank of America would continue to lead online banks with 24.6 million unique customers and could get a boost from its recent acquisitions of investment powerhouse Merril Lynch and troubled mortgage firm Countrywide Financial.
