MidFlorida FCU Renovates Historic Post Office

LAKELAND, Fla. – MidFlorida FCU plans to renovate the Federal Building, the city’s first post office, to restore its 1919 style, then lease it from the city, which owns the property.

Plans call for the city to lease the property to MidFlorida for at least 40 years for $1 per year.

Construction of the building began in 1917, and the building, about 4,000 square feet, was dedicated in 1919. In 1931, the building doubled in size.

MidFlorida plans to spend an estimated $800,000 to $1 million for the renovation, and use the building for meetings and conferences.

Construction could begin in about six months.
