Military Recreation Center Gets CU Backing

A new USO recreation center at Fort Bliss is expected to be unveiled later this spring, courtesy of FirstLight Federal Credit Union.

The credit union, known until last July as Fort Bliss Federal Credit Union, donated $250,000 to the project, which required the gutting and renovation of an existing facility on base

The center will provide free Internet access, a large-screen television viewing area, gaming, study room, library, reading room and snack bar to as many as 20,000 active duty military personnel and their families when it opens in March

Fort Bliss serves as a training facility for all Reserve and National Guard replacement units currently deployed in Southwest Asia, and another 15,000 troops are expected to transfer there over the next few years.
