EL PASO, Texas - (01/18/06) -- A new USO recreation center at FortBliss is expected to be unveiled later this spring, courtesy ofFirstLight FCU. The credit union, known until last July as FortBliss FCU, donated $250,000 to the project, which required thegutting and renovation of an existing facility on base. The centerwill provide free Internet access, a large-screen televisionviewing area, gaming, study room, library, reading room and snackbar to as many as 20,000 active duty military personnel and theirfamilies when it opens in March. Fort Bliss serves as a trainingfacility for all Reserve and National Guard replacement unitscurrently deployed in Southwest Asia, and another 15,000 troops areexpected to transfer there over the next few years.
