Minnesota Network Brings New Meaning To Mug Shot

The Minnesota CU Network, which brought you legislative playing cards and sauerkraut for political fundraising, has introduced a different lobbying promotion. Representatives of the state league hand-delivered to all 201 members of the state legislature and Gov. Tim Pawlenty a personalized coffee mug with their photo, name, party affiliation, district number and home city affixed to it. The mugs contained a letter from the credit union league, a packet of cocoa and a 12-page booklet about credit unions and the credit union difference.

The mugs were delivered in advance of the league's annual "Credit Union Day at the Capitol" lobbying foray on Jan. 26.

Last year the league presented lawmakers with personalized playing cards and held an Oktoberfest beer blast to raise political funds that featured German food and a sing-along with "George the German."

Kevin Chandler, president of the Minnesota league and a former state legislator, said they were trying to have a little fun while sending a message to lawmakers.
