SAN DIEGO – Mission Federal CU is taking the opposite tack on debit transactions than the big banks – the $2-billion credit union is paying members, instead of charging them, to use their debit cards.
As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, in November Mission Fed will pay members $0.25 each time they use their debit card for qualified transactions, up to the $5 per month some banks are charging. As an additional 50th Anniversary bonus, Mission Fed members can refer a friend to open an account and both the existing and new credit union members will receive $50 by meeting certain program requirements.
As part of its birthday celebration Mission Fed has invited the local community to “pay it forward” with acts of kindness. It has created a “Kindness Crew” to carry out 50 Mission Acts of Kindness at schools and non-profits throughout San Diego County, which the credit union said will be making a difference of consequence, as well as inspiring others to pay the kindness forward to causes they most care about.
