MLB Great Turns Pitchman For Municipal CU
NEW YORK — Municipal Credit Union has launched a series of TV commercials this week featuring John Franco, the longtime relief pitcher for the New York Mets, as the credit union's new spokesperson.
Franco, who holds the major league record for saves by a left-hander (424), will be featured on television and other media and will make public appearances on behalf of the $1.6-billion credit union. Franco spent 22 years in the big leagues, pitching for the Mets and for the Cincinnati Reds.
The Brooklyn native has a long history with the credit union, as his father was a city employee and Municipal member. "MCU was there for my dad to help him reach his financial goals, which in turn, helped me achieve my dream of playing professional baseball," said the credit union's new pitchman.
In one of the commercials, Franco holds up a shirt that was part of his dad's uniform that the baseball great wore under his Mets uniform at every game.
At the end of the spot, Franco plugs MCU's slogan: "Strong. Trusted. Growing." Municipal's new ad campaign was created by Vanguard Direct in New York City.
