BENSENVILLE, Ill. – A former mortgage officer at Bensenville Community CU admitted stealing nearly $200,000 from the credit union.
Desiree Cortes, 31, on Wednesday pleaded guilty to theft over $100,000.
Cortes told prosecutors she secretly opened five credit cards in the name of the credit union and racked up nearly $200,000 in charges. She used the money in part to go to Cabo San Lucas and the Wisconsin Dells, as well pay household expenses, according to prosecutors.
She confessed to her supervisor in December after learning the credit union was about to get a new computer system that would expose the thefts.
Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 5.
